How to Set Up WiFi & App Control for Your Sauna (MyHarvia and More)

Being able to start your sauna from your phone — so it's hot by the time you've changed and walked out to it — is one of those small luxuries that you use every single session. Most modern electric heaters support it through a WiFi module and a companion app. Harvia's is the most common, called MyHarvia, but the setup process and the troubleshooting are much the same across brands. Here's how to get it working and what to do when it doesn't.

What you need first

App control isn't automatic — your heater has to have the WiFi hardware. On Harvia systems that's the Xenio WiFi control unit or a compatible WiFi-enabled controller; other brands (HUUM, Saunum, Tylö, and others) each have their own module and app. Before you start, confirm your control unit actually supports WiFi (check the model on the panel or the manual). If it doesn't, no app will find it — you'd need the WiFi version of the controller.

You'll also need your home 2.4 GHz WiFi network in range of the sauna. This trips a lot of people up: most sauna WiFi modules connect only to 2.4 GHz, not 5 GHz. If your router broadcasts a single combined network, you may need to temporarily separate the bands or make sure your phone is on the 2.4 GHz band during pairing.

Setting up the MyHarvia app

The flow is the same idea on every brand: download the app, make an account, and pair the controller to your WiFi.

  1. Download the app. For a Harvia, that's MyHarvia from the App Store or Google Play. (Other brands: download their matching app.)
  2. Create an account and log in.
  3. Put the control unit into pairing mode. On Harvia's Xenio WiFi this is done from the control panel's settings menu — the manual shows the exact button sequence for your unit.
  4. Add the device in the app and follow the prompts to hand it your 2.4 GHz WiFi name and password.
  5. Wait for it to connect. Once paired, you'll see your sauna in the app and can set target temperature, start and stop it, and use timers and schedules.

Follow the in-app steps and your controller's manual together — the app walks you through it, and the manual has the panel-side button presses.

When it won't connect: the factory reset that fixes most issues

WiFi pairing is fiddly, and it's normal for the first attempt to fail. If the app won't find the controller, won't finish pairing, or connects and then keeps dropping, work through this:

If it's still misbehaving after that, the fix that clears most stubborn problems is a factory reset on the digital control panel. Resetting the controller wipes the half-finished network configuration that's usually the culprit, and lets you run the pairing process cleanly from scratch. Your manual shows the reset sequence for your specific unit — do the reset, then start the app setup again from step one. This resolves the large majority of "MyHarvia won't connect" situations.

The one-hour auto-off still applies

One thing app control doesn't change: the safety timer. Every electric sauna heater shuts itself off automatically after about an hour of running, whether you started it from the panel or your phone. That's a code-required safety feature, not a glitch. If you're doing a long session with breaks, you'll simply restart it — and being able to do that from your phone without getting up is part of why app control is nice in the first place. Many apps also let you schedule a start time, so the sauna is ready exactly when you want it.

A note on the control panel itself

Even without WiFi, it's worth knowing your panel. The temperature you set is held at the temperature sensor, which is usually mounted high near the ceiling — so the number on the panel reads hotter than the bench feels. If your sauna feels cooler than the display suggests, that's normal, and there are ways to run it hotter.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I set up the MyHarvia app?

Download MyHarvia, create an account, put your Harvia WiFi control unit (like the Xenio WiFi) into pairing mode from its panel settings, then add the device in the app and give it your 2.4 GHz WiFi network. Once paired you can set temperature, start and stop the heater, and schedule sessions from your phone. Follow the app prompts alongside your controller's manual for the exact panel button sequence.

Why won't my sauna connect to WiFi?

The most common causes are being on a 5 GHz network instead of 2.4 GHz, a mistyped WiFi password, or weak signal at the sauna. Fix those, restart your router and phone, and retry. If it still won't pair, do a factory reset on the control panel and run the app setup again from scratch — that clears the half-finished configuration that usually causes it.

Does my sauna heater support app control?

Only if it has the WiFi version of the controller — for Harvia that's the Xenio WiFi or a compatible WiFi-enabled unit. Check your control unit's model on the panel or manual. A non-WiFi controller can't be made to work with the app; you'd need to upgrade the controller.

Why does my sauna turn off by itself after an hour?

That's the required safety auto-off — every electric sauna heater shuts down after about an hour of running. It's not a fault. Just restart it (from the panel or the app) if you want to keep going, or use the app's scheduling to start a fresh session.
