I started using saunas years ago at the gym and quickly became hooked — the heat, the ritual, the way everything slows down. Eventually, the crowded gym sauna wasn't cutting it anymore, so I decided to build my own. I wasn't a builder, but I spent months studying Finnish sauna design principles and learning what actually makes a sauna perform well. That first backyard build in South Lake Tahoe has been running multiple times a week for over five years now — through heavy snow seasons and everything Tahoe throws at it.
That experience taught me that a great sauna comes down to getting the design right from the start — proper insulation, ventilation, bench height, and heater sizing. I founded Tahoe Sauna Company to help people skip the guesswork and get a custom sauna that's built to last. Whether you're planning a backyard build or converting a spare room, I'll help you design a sauna that fits your space, your climate, and the way you actually want to use it.
We design saunas that look and feel like part of your home & lifestyle, not a mismatched add-on. Our saunas are also built to last, which means that are energy efficient, durable, and comfortable.

Get StartedMost gym saunas have the same problems: not hot enough, single-tier benches, poor ventilation, deteriorating wood. Here's what's actually wrong and how a redesign can fix it.
