6.5x6.5 indoor sauna built inside a garage with electric heater, vapor barrier, and balanced ventilation.
Building a sauna in a garage is one of the most popular DIY sauna projects, but it comes with challenges most people don't think about until it's too late — mainly moisture. Kyle wanted a custom indoor sauna inside his garage in Reno, and the 6.5×6.5 footprint was all the space he could carve out. We designed it around an 8kW electric sauna heater with WiFi controls running on a 240V dedicated circuit, a continuous aluminum vapor barrier with taped seams and sealed penetrations, and a balanced ventilation system with dedicated intake and exhaust to keep the air fresh and CO2 levels low. The vapor barrier is the most critical part of a garage sauna build — without it, moisture migrates into the garage wall cavity and you end up with mold and rot. We detailed every seam, penetration, and transition to make the envelope airtight. Cedar paneling on the interior walls and ceiling, with fiberglass insulation behind it. The result is a compact sauna that heats fast, holds heat well, and won't damage the garage around it.
“High quality done quickly. Exceeded expectations with how quickly it heats and comfort.”
