How to size a sauna heater
For electric heaters, the rule of thumb is about 1 kW per 50 cubic feet of sauna room volume. Multiply length × width × height to get your volume, then divide by 50. A 6×8 sauna with a 7-foot ceiling is 336 cu. ft. — so you're looking at roughly a 6.5–7 kW heater.
Add capacity if you have a lot of glass, an uninsulated exterior wall, or stone surfaces — those absorb heat and pull your effective volume up. Wood-fired stoves are usually rated by cubic footage instead of kW, so match the stove's rated room size to your sauna volume rather than doing the math.

Wood-Fired Sauna Stoves — Full Reference
Wood stoves are sized by cubic footage rather than kW in most US spec sheets. Where kW is published it's included. They run a different heat profile than electric — higher mass, a longer heat-up (1.5–3 hours), more humidity from steam, and a living fire. Buying notes
UL listing. In the US, your AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) may require UL-listed heaters for permitted installations. Brands confirmed UL listed: HUUM, Saunum, IKI (UL 875), Harvia, Amerec, EOS, Scandia.
Controls. Most modern heaters support external digital controls, and many now offer WiFi (Harvia App, HUUM UKU, Saunum app). Always confirm control compatibility when speccing.
Stone type. Most heaters require olivine diabase or peridotite sauna stones. Don't use river rocks or granite — they can crack and shatter under heat cycling.
Wood stove clearances. Wood-burning stoves require non-combustible clearances on all sides, a proper flue / chimney, and in most jurisdictions a building permit. Verify local code before specifying.
